"Philanthropy is an opportunity for people to express their passions and concerns in both concrete and symbolic ways. It is a way for people to demonstrate their connection to something that is bigger than themselves and their immediate surroundings."

"I have personally benefitted from the Center's support for research on philanthropy and the nonprofit sector – funds made available to faculty members and students on a competitive basis to pursue research that aligns with the Center's priorities. My own research on Indiana nonprofits over the last decade or so would not have been possible without the financial resources, contacts, and the Efroymson chair that the Center has provided. I've been fortunate. And so I want to make sure these opportunities are available to others in the future."

Dr. Kirsten A. Grønbjerg holds the Efroymson Chair in Philanthropy at The Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University. She is a Professor of Public and Environmental Affairs at the Indiana University School of Public and Environmental Affairs, and Professor of Sociology and Philanthropic Studies at the Indiana University School of Liberal Arts at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis. She teaches on both the Bloomington and Indianapolis campuses. Dr. Grønbjerg’s gift created the Kirsten A. Grønbjerg Research Fund, which supports research programs at the Center on Philanthropy.
