The Fund Raising School, an international leader in fundraising training and professional development, and the School of Public and Environmental Affairs at Indiana University, a nationally ranked leader in nonprofit management education, are pleased to offer this course. It is one of four required courses for the Certificate in Nonprofit Executive Leadership.
Course Description
One of the biggest challenges facing the nonprofit sector today is the quality of its management and board. This course will provide participants with a strong foundation in the legal and managerial responsibilities of nonprofit organizations by engaging topics related to governance, accountability, collaboration, and leadership. Topics include:
- Leading, managing and motivating volunteers and staff
- Collaboration activities and partner relations
- Watchdog organizations and the regulatory environment
- Governance models, trends and options
- Roles and responsibilities of boards of directors
- Public accountability and ethical leadership
The Online Format
The content of this 4-week online course is the same as in the traditional 2-day in-person version of Nonprofit Management for the 21st Century; however, it is organized specifically for online learning. This online course is asynchronous and is facilitated by an expert instructor. It contains weekly modules which open on Sunday and close on Saturday when assignments are due. In each module, you will: 1) Complete readings and view narrated PowerPoint presentations; 2) Complete brief assessment activities; and 3) Participate in forum discussions and submit learning assignments.

Facilitator: Wolf Bielefeld is Professor of Public & Environmental Affairs at Indiana University. He teaches nonprofit management and leadership and has held appointments at the University of Texas at Dallas, University of Minnesota, and Stanford University. He has published extensively on nonprofit management, charitable choice and faith based organizations. He has worked with nonprofit organizations in the U.S. and Asia.
