Applications are being accepted for a $5,000, one-year fellowship supporting doctoral research and dissertation writing that contributes to understanding of women’s philanthropy or gender differences in philanthropic behavior.
April 30 is the deadline to apply for the 2018 Women’s Philanthropy Institute (WPI) Doctoral Dissertation Fellowship.
The doctoral dissertation fellowship contributes new research to expand the knowledge base about women’s philanthropy. Previous fellowship recipients have studied a wide range of topics across several disciplines including Jewish women’s philanthropy and social change; an analysis of how donors, especially women, choose among volunteering, fundraising, and monetary donations; the effect of specific women’s philanthropy initiatives at higher education institutions on giving; women’s holiday houses at the beginning of the 20th century; the philanthropy of same-sex couples; and the history of gospel rescue missions.
The 2017 fellowship recipient, Lauren Dula of the School of Public and Environmental Affairs at Indiana University, is exploring how the gender composition of grant-making nonprofit boards of directors and executive leadership shapes the organization’s performance.
