In 2011, the Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy, with generous support from the Kresge Foundation, initiated a project to advance knowledge in the Human Services sector.
The goals of the program were to build a community of scholars moving the research agenda on the human services sector forward, and to improve the practice of human services nonprofit organizations assisting low-income populations in the U.S.
The school’s role in the project was to identify 10 promising scholars who would benefit from a sub-grant that would allow them to move their work forward and advance the entire human services field by doing research that would assist organizations on the ground. Kresge’s support anchors these scholars in the human services research landscape, creating lifelong ambassadors for the field as they achieve tenure.
The video below provides an overview of the Advancing Knowledge Project as well as five of the Kresge Scholars discussing their individual projects.
