The Obama Administration's proposals to reduce the charitable tax deduction for wealthy households and to increase the marginal income tax rates they pay would, by themselves, have a modest negative effect on itemized charitable giving, according to a new study conducted by the Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University and sponsored by Campbell and Company.

A new, one-of-a-kind searchable database will help high net worth individuals and their financial advisors decide where, when and why to give philanthropic gifts of $1 million or more. The Million Dollar List (www.milliondollarlist.org) is the largest free record of publicly reported gifts of this size made since 2000.

(June 20, 2011) – Giving USA Foundationâ„¢ and its research partner, the Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University, today announced that total charitable contributions from American individuals, corporations and foundations were an estimated $290.89 billion in 2010, up from a revised estimate of $280.30 billion for 2009. The 2010 estimate represents growth of 3.8 percent in current dollars and 2.1 percent in inflation-adjusted dollars.

Robert L. Payton, an early leader in the movement to develop research about philanthropy and establish philanthropy as an academic field worthy of serious intellectual study, is being remembered for his pioneering leadership in the philanthropic sector.
